Both buying and renting are relatively easy. Foreigners may own condos, just not houses, as they can't own land.

Renting, you can view a condo and move in same day in most cases. You'll want to prepare 3 months rent. First month is paid upfront and there's a 2 month security deposit that will be returned to you at the end of your contract. Proving your owner is a decent person and your agent doesn't abandon you.

Jobs, well that depends on the type of job. Teaching? Tons of work. Well paying? Not at all. However, if you have the right qualifications, international schools will pay salaries that provide an acceptable standard of living. They hire far in advance.

For jobs in other industries, you're welcome to search jobsDB Thailand to see what's available. It's recommend to have your job and visa lined up prior to leaving your home country. Non-B visas are what allow employment and to obtain a work permit.

That's your basics, I suppose
